CT Service in Byron Bay

Thursday, 6 October 2011

North Coast Radiology is pleased to extend the range of services available in both the Byron Bay Shire, and beyond with the recent introduction of Computed Tomography (CT) imaging.

CT is an xray examination that takes computer-generated images of the internal workings of the body. It allows the building up of a picture of the anatomy under review, showing both soft tissue and bone, and it is particularly useful for imaging parts of the body that are difficult to access.

The equipment that takes the CT image is large, and usually in the shape of a circle or square, with an opening or gantry in the middle (a little like a donut), which allows the patient table to pass through. During this process the machinery takes a number of image slices which, when combined in a total picture, is very detailed.

Establishment of this service will allow for not only CT imaging, but also related interventional procedures such as CT guided injections and CT fluoscopy.

The Byron Bay rooms, located at Byron West Shopping Centre, Bayshore Drive, is open from 8.00am to 5.00pm, and offers minimal traffic delays and easy parking.

Importantly, a Radiologist is on site Monday to Friday to provide both imaging and interventional services.
