Northern Rivers Women's Imaging

As a locally owned and operated health care provider, North Coast Radiology (NCR), we are expanding the health services for the Northern Rivers with the launch of a brand new specialist imaging centre for women, “Northern Rivers Women's Imaging”.

Now open, the brand new facility will offer patients access to services specific to women’s needs. These services will bring together key services including Diagnostic & Obstetric Ultrasound, Mammography, Breast Ultrasound, Bone Densitometry and breast Nuclear Medicine procedures into one practice.

This new service will be offered from a dedicated new suite in the specialist Centre in St Vincent's Private Hospital in Lismore.

We're pleased to be able to offer the whole Northern Rivers region with improved access, new imaging equipment as well as integration of women’s imaging services for patients.

Specific services that are now available from the new North Coast Women’s Imaging Centre include:

  • CR Mammography – for diagnosing breast cysts, injuries and cancers, pre-surgical localisations and microcalcification detection
  • Ultrasound – for pregnancy, gynaecological disorders, breast assessment and biopsy and guided breast biopsies,.
  • Bone Densitometry - for measuring bone density health pre, during and post menopause for diagnosing osteoporosis
  • Hysterosonography – for assessing some specific uterine abnormalities
  • Galactography – for assessing problems with breast ducts

In addition to the above, the full range of associated and comprehensive services covering MRI, fluoroscopy, Multislice CT, interventional procedures and General x-ray will be conveniently accessible through our main St Vincent’s practice also located on level 2. The facility also ensures easy ambulance access.

As a locally run partnership of Radiologists, we're able to deliver an industry leading quality of service in diagnosing and reporting.

In Mammography specifically, we have 4 local radiologists who are also radiologists on the Panel of Breast Screen NSW. What this means for patients is that these Doctors review a very high (average of 13 – 14,000) number of mammograms each year. Bringing this level of expertise into NCR's new Women’s Imaging Centre will help local women feel as confident as possible with their mammography results.

The new rooms will operate 5 days a week; Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.

We will also continue to provide a downtown presence for general ‘walk-in’ X-Ray and ultrasound - currently operating from “Killclare” at 16 Keen St.

We continue to operate as a locally owned medical practice, committed to supporting the needs of the local communities, whilst consistantly looking to make significant improvements to our available service options.

This announcement comes closely after the significant upgrades to our Casino and Byron Bay practices. Furthermore, we have recently become one of the first fully accredited imaging practices as applied by the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Health and Ageing. This means after 1 July 2012 when Medicare-rebate eligible patients visit our new Women’s Imaging practice, or any of the other sites, they will continue to benefit from the Medicare rebates available.
